Route 66 week six message from Linda Evans on March 17, 2019 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. In a nutshell, Joshua took his people into the promised land. There were wars, most of which the Israelites won and they finally took possession of the land. Joshua divided things up and the Israelites began living the dream in the Promised Land. Joshua 1:1-3 5-9 Just like that, Joshua is put in charge and given his instructions. Three times God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous and Joshua starts doing what God asked him to do immediately. He feels a sense of urgency to do what God is commanding of him. Joshua 1:10-11 Joshua 1:16-18 They trusted God and they trusted their leader who was well prepared and they were ready to go! How often do we feel a sense of urgency as Christians? That feeling of something that needs our attention NOW! He wants us to be strong and courageous and get going! John 15:12 Matthew 22:37-39 Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus tells Peter to Feed his lambs meaning to take care of people… feed, teach, support, nourish and encourage people new to the faith. Take care of his sheep… grow them into strong Christ followers. Equip them to raise up the next generation and the next and the next… God gave Joshua a mission and his mission was clear. Take the people into the promised land. Fight for this land. Settle this land. The Bible makes our mission clear and the Bible tells us that Jesus is coming back some day. Our mission is not only clear but it is also urgent and the mission field is right here Reaching People for Jesus Christ and helping them live out their God given potential. If our mission is truly reaching people for Jesus Christ, we have to be bold and courageous and start inviting them. We have to be intentional about our own relationship and we have to be intentional about our mission as Christians. We have all been saved FROM something FOR something. Joshua led well because he was brought up to do just that. Moses invested in Joshua and consequently Joshua knew God. He loved God. He was obedient to God. His children knew God. If we all step up to serve and lead and also set up other people behind us to serve and lead that’s when we’re really going to start making a huge impact for God’s Kingdom right here, right now AND in the future. What will your legacy be here? Making more and better disciples is a mission that happens through service and love. Joshua 24:15 You can’t say that without also living out the commands that Jesus gave to us. What would it be like if more people got to know God and proclaimed that same thing? As for me and my house… we will serve the Lord.
