Grace is Greater week five message from Pastor Chris Russell on April 8, 2018 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. Grace is greater than anything you walked in the door with this morning. And that takes us to our final emphasis for this series which is that God’s… Grace is Greater than our Circumstances Now what exactly are we talking about when we use the word circumstances? We’re talking about those things that happen around us. We sometimes like to think that we have more control then we do but in reality many of the things that happen around us are far outside of our control. When it comes right down to it, we don’t get to choose a lot of what happens in the circumstances around us. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 We think that if something would just change in our circumstances THEN we could be thankful and joyful. This is the happiness illusion that so many people buy into. We spend so much of our lives thinking that happiness will be determined by changed circumstances, and then we end up always having something to feel miserable about because there is always something that we want to change that we can’t change. 2 Corinthians 11:24-27 Grace is what allows us to look at our circumstances, whatever we experience, whatever the situation might be, and still be thankful, still be joyful. It’s us being able to recognize that what we have received by God’s grace is so much greater than anything we experience in our circumstances. Hebrews 12:15 This gets at the very heart of what kind of church we are striving to be together. We can be like a lot of other churches where people come trying to put on the best front possible so that they look all together and impressive from an outward perspective. We can do that and be primarily concerned with what other people think of us. OR we can do things differently. We can choose to put what God thinks of us before what others think of us. We can choose to be real and vulnerable instead so that we make room for God’s grace to show up in amazing ways. We can be open about our brokenness and the messiness of our lives so that others can relate to us and see the hope that we have in our God even IN THE MIDST of our challenging circumstances. If we do that, then people don’t miss out on the grace of God, they see it in all of its power and action and they are drawn to it and want to experience it for and in their own lives. There’s something beautiful that happens when people finally get that this life isn’t about them but instead it’s about a greater purpose of seeing God at work in us and through us so that the rest of the world is drawn to Him. And that only happens when Grace is shown in all of its beauty and power. SPA MINISTRIES:
