Sync week five message from Pastor Chris Russell on September 9, 2018 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. When Jesus was with his closest followers He was teaching all the time and they often had to have been wondering, “Out of all the information we are getting, what is the stuff we really, really need to get?… what’s the stuff that will be on the final exam?” …in other words… “Are we going to be held accountable later for what you are teaching us now?” The primary theme of chapter 25 is to Be Ready because we will have to give an account for how we lived our lives when Jesus returns. And one of the main questions we have considered in this series is… What do we need to do NOW so that we will be ready THEN? We live in a culture that has a “me, me, me” focus and a “mine, mine, mine” mentality when it comes to our money and resources. *closed fist vs. open fist mentality And we aren’t just talking about our finances when we say resources. We have resources other than that. Our relationships are a resource… our abilities are a resource… our possessions are a resource…our influence is a resource… we need to look at all of these areas and ask ourselves “How do we align these things, how do we sync these things up, with what matters to God?” Matthew 25:31-46 Ephesians 2:8-9 2 Corinthians 5:10 Is there enough evidence to show we truly believe? Consumer mentality – what does this church offer me? Here’s the problem with that… The Day of the Lord is coming… and we will be held accountable. Irony: this is how God judges the genuineness of our belief based on these verses; same way the world judges the genuineness of our belief. It’s what a cynical and skeptical world will pay attention to. If we are going to claim to be followers of Christ then we need to make sure we are in SYNC with what matters the most to Him. And that means that the poor, the disenfranchised, the overlooked, the broken, and the vulnerable need to become a top priority for us…. because they are already a top priority to God. Ask God to help you see people the way He sees them, make it your prayer to say, “God would you break my heart for the things that break your heart? Help me love others as much as I love ___________ in my own life… help me to care for people as much as I care for ___________ in my own life.” God will honor that prayer and will stir inside of you and begin to sync up your heart and mind with His heart and mind. Then God will show up in ways that only He can and do things in you and through you that will truly change the world… one person at a time.

Sync week three message from Pastor Chris Russell on August 26, 2018 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. This series is all about syncing up our resources with God’s priorities. We want to make sure that what we are doing here in our time on earth really matters in the scope of eternity. As we learn more and more about the things that matter the most and are the nearest and dearest to the heart of God, they should also become the things that matter the most and are the nearest and dearest to our hearts as well. We need to sync up our hearts and minds with the heart and mind of our heavenly Father. Because when we do that, incredible things happen and God shows up in amazing ways and does things that only He can do. You will never find more passion in your life than when your heart and mind and how you use your time and resources are strongly synced up with the things that matter the most to God. One of the biggest hindrances we have as American Christians in how well we sync up with God’s priorities is how we use our stuff… how we allocate our resources... bottom line is the problem we have with thinking that it’s “our” stuff to begin with. Matthew 25:14-30 Two key themes we need to get from this verse. One, it’s HIS wealth, not ours. Everything belongs to God. Second, everything that He gives to us is something that he is ENTRUSTING us with… in other words, He is expecting us to handle our resources in a way that reflects and honors who He is and would be pleasing to Him. The resources we have are never to be seen as being ours, we are the servants… so everything we do with those resources is supposed to be a reflection of what the Master Himself would do with those resources. However, if we do what most people do and see our resources as “ours”, then we don’t worry about trying to learn what the Bible has to say about how to use them faithfully because we have decided that our plan is better than God’s plan. When we understand that it all belongs to God then we don’t get caught up in the comparison game with others; instead we simply are grateful for that which he has entrusted to us. And when we live lives of gratefulness toward God for what He entrusts us with, we respond by being generous people because that is God’s desire for our lives and we desire to be in sync with God’s priorities for our lives. It’s all about intentionality. What if we decided to get crystal clear on those things that matter most to the heart of God and invest heavily in them with all that we possibly can? What would that look like for you? What would that look like for our church family? Imagine allowing God to stir in you in such a way that you experienced the passion that we heard from our youth last week and from Jessica today about a world issue that matters deeply to God. And then we decide to go AT ONCE and begin becoming a part of the solution, through the use of our time and our resources. It all starts with surrendering ourselves to the one who made us and has an amazing plan for our lives. A plan that involves drawing others to Him and getting invested in those issues that are near and dear to His heart.

Sync week two message from Pastor Chris Russell on August 19, 2018 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. A wonderful time of sharing from our GenNext Youth with stories from their trip to the Dominican Republic! James 4:14 What are we doing with our time? Are we making the most of it? Are we using it for God’s purposes. There are massive challenges and urgencies taking place in third world countries all over this globe when it comes to poverty, education, sex trafficking and other human rights, and it’s not ok for us to live our lives here with no concern for those things that are happening over there. One of the great organizations that we here at CCW partner with is Kids Alive International which has its world headquarters in Valparaiso, IN.

Sync week one message from Pastor Chris Russell on August 12, 2018 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. When we look at what the Bible teaches we realize that we are told that we should always be living our lives with the end in mind…. in other words, we should always be living in a state of readiness, in a state of awareness that the end could come at any time. But we don’t think this way naturally do we? In fact, I would guess most of us don’t really like the idea of trying to think that way all the time do we? We don’t want to constantly think about dying and when that might happen. But the reality is we are all dying… the question is how will you live between now and then? James 4:14 What are we doing with our time? This series that we are calling SYNC is all about matching our resources with God’s priorities so that we will be ready when we stand before God someday. Matthew 24:42-44 Matthew 25:1-13 What do you need to do NOW so you are ready THEN? Matthew 6: 19-20 1 Timothy 6:17-19 What could I do without now so I can better match up my resources with God’s priorities? Matthew 19:29 When we live our lives and use our financial resources with the bigger end picture in mind it allow us to... *live open handed *desire to find ways to sacrifice now and give toward kingdom work *be intentional with increasing our giving over time (22%) *ask different questions…what would it look like if instead of asking “What’s the most we can spend?” that instead we asked “What’s the least we can spend?” so that we can use the rest for Kingdom purposes. Let’s look at our finances and our resources with the end in mind. There’s something off if we say that we trust Jesus with our eternity but we don’t trust him with our finances. *back to beginning story; guy realized it was a gift, because suddenly a lot of things came in to focus, he became real clear on some things in his life that needed to get aligned *you are on limited time here, make it count, not just for now, but for all of eternity. Go hard after God with your finances and your resources and store up treasures where it matters the most.
