Route 66 week four message from Linda Evans on February 24, 2019 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. The Israelites have arrived on the southern border of the land that God has promised to give to them and the book of Numbers starts off by telling us that there is going to be a war. Numbers 1: 1-5 In chapter 10, The Israelites are on the move getting nearer to the promised land and the grumbling begins… They are tired of eating Manna all the time and want meat. In chapter 11 there is more grumbling… Aaron and a woman named Miriam were complaining about Moses and his leadership. God was providing their food and water. God was providing great leadership through Moses. God was providing reassurance of His presence through that pillar of fire at night and a pillar of cloud during the day… And yet there was grumbling. Sometimes grumbling leads to more grumbling. Discontent leads to more discontent. Crabbiness leads to more crabbiness. Numbers 13:17-20 These 12 men took off and were gone for 40 days. When the 12 spies returned, everyone was eager for their report. There I am in the crowd pressing in and practically Numbers 13:26-27 Numbers 14 Why do we trust in God when things are going well and we feel blessed but then refuse to be obedient to God when he asks us to do something that is out of our comfort zone? When you shift from asking, “God, what do you want me to do?” to the “Hmmm, what is manageable?” mentality, opportunities are missed! Complaining people become ineffective and complacent people. God did not create us to be ineffective or complacent. What is God calling us to do? I think Jesus was very clear about that! Matthew 22: 37-39 Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus is the head of the church and the church isn’t just this building. The church is the body of Christ. As Christ followers, we are the church. And as that body, we are called to be His hands and His feet and His voice to the world. Some of us are called to do that in our corner of the world. Our family, our neighborhoods, our workplace. Some of us have been called to be the hands, feet and voice of Jesus to far away places. All of us have been called to serve somewhere. The question we should ask is are we being obedient to that call? What are you doing? Matthew 19:16-22 Hebrews 12:2 Here’s the truth… This doesn’t come naturally. I’m having to pray for that attitude of obedience because I can sure be a grumbler!! I have to intentionally say these words each day. Call me. Use me. Help people see you through me. Help me be bold for you! Isn’t it interesting that the 2 spies, Joshua and Caleb, saw the same land as the other 10 and they said, “GO!” while the others screamed, “NO!” Why do different people have different reactions to the same reality? It’s partly because we don’t always see things as they are, but as we are! We look through our own lens. What is it that God calling you to do right now? How will you respond? Will you be obedient? Deal or No Deal? I pray your answer will be DEAL! Here am I. Send me!
