by Luke Aadalen

Defined week three message from Pastor Luke Aadalen on November 12, 2017 at Community Church of Waterford, Goshen, Indiana. To be true champions for the cause of Christ we must live out that faith in action through the process of sacrifice. Sacrifice is not something we usually equate to our everyday life, but that is the problem with how we choose to define it. So, let’s first, once again, look at what Webster’s has to say about the word sacrifice… Definition of Sacrifice – Webster’s Dictionary: 1. an act of offering to a deity something precious 2. something offered in sacrifice 3. destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else; something given up or lost Two views of sacrifice Society: 1. Word for it – Humanitarian 2. Usually done with recognition involved 3. Usually done for the sake of accolade 4. Usually done to make one feel good about themselves Gospel: 1. Word for it – Servanthood 2. Usually done without need for recognition 3. Usually done for the sake of simply doing 4. Usually done for the sake of others Don’t get me wrong – both can be twisted the other way Three Roads of Biblical Sacrifice: 1. LIVING SACRIFICE - Jesus’ Life & Our Surrender Romans 12:1 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 2. WILLFULL SACRIFICE - Jesus’ Choice & Our Thanks Matthew 26:26-28, 39-42 3. SELF SACRIFICE - Jesus’ Death & Our Action Matthew 16:24-25 Mark 12:41-44 Luke 23:26-46 What we deserve we do not truly have to endure. What we have earned will not be collected on. We deserve death. What we have earned is eternal separation from God. But because of HIS sacrifice – living, willful and self, we get to make a choice to accept a sacrifice of our own – living, willful and self, and in turn receive eternal life in the presence of God Almighty. Life is MORE than fair – why? Because of SACRIFICE When we choose to surrender to Jesus we become a living sacrifice. When we choose to be thankful in everything we offer a willful sacrifice. When we choose to deny ourselves daily, taking up our cross and follow our self sacrifice will be evident. So, what is most important? Remember – we can choose sacrifice – we can selflessly give of ourselves – because the faith that we claim has HOPE for what has been, what is and what will be. It is alive and active because it is our God – it is the definition of who he is. Now – how do YOU want to be DEFINED?
